The location of the existing building of the Stadtwerke Trier on Weberbachstraße with a view of the Imperial Baths, built in the 4th century AD, defines the existing location to a large extent spatially and atmospherically.
A new concrete and brick façade derived from the constructions and materials of the thermal baths, which detaches itself from the existing structure via a layer of air, integrates the extension and the existing building. The skeleton made of exposed concrete forms a scaffolding, which was infilled with prefabricated brick panes according to internal requirements. At the same time, the intermediate space takes on the function of a climate and noise buffer, the mullion-transom façade with the highest security requirements hermetically seals off the sensitive office areas from the street space.
