The new building of the Musikforum Bochum represents an important public building block in the development of the inner-city creative quarter Viktoriastraße in Bochum. As the central foyer of the building, the profaned, historic St. Mary's Church is the identity-creating, urban and functional centre of the Musikforum. On both sides of the church, buildings were arranged that are directly oriented to the length of the nave and interlock with it internally. The height development along Viktoriastraße is staggered depending on the interior space requirements, thus giving the building an appropriate scale in the urban space. On the south side of the church, built in 1872, is the concert hall of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra with about 1000 seats and high-quality acoustic equipment, on its north side a flexibly playable multifunctional hall for the music school.
