Derzbachhof Munich New Building
When the city reaches its limits
The oldest farm in Munich – a few words are enough, the uniqueness of the project. Two seemingly opposing human Longings shape a place and its architecture: the rural idyll and the urban city. In the passing of time there is a power that we can use in the design of contemporary architecture. The listed Farmhouse with threshing floor creates atmosphere and scale and inspires the new building down to the last detail. The barrenness of old farmhouses fits in with modern, concentrated, even modest living concepts: smoothed concrete, visible Wood and red clay tiles. With just a few materials, the impression of space can be captured. The selection is also manageable in terms of external appearance: Wooden facades, tiled gable roofs, granite slabs. Even that The cliché of the large farming family continues to have an effect in this project: the old Farmhouse with parlour, kitchen and bedrooms serves the owners as a Community house. The outdoor areas are intensively designed and jointly managed: fruit trees, chickens and a cottage garden preserve the Memory of the rural origin of Forstenried.
