The Haus Hoinka project was planned in the years 2018 to 2019 by Atelier Kaiser Shen BDA from Stuttgart and carried out in the years 2020 to 2023.
The entire building envelope of the semi-detached house is made of a prefabricated element consisting of construction straw and clay plaster. This construction made of local and environmentally friendly building materials fulfils excellent properties in terms of insulation and indoor climate. In order to protect the floor slab of this sensitive construction method from water, the building is raised.
However, this constructionally necessary elevation is exaggerated and carried out storey-high. This creates an open space that can be appropriated by the residents and functions, for example, as a workshop or summer kitchen. Thus, the building will be enlarged by an entire floor in summer. The point-symmetrical spatial entanglement of the two semi-detached houses responds to visual references in the surroundings, as well as the orientation to the garden.
