LAYER
The information centre for the district is located between the districts of Marzahn and Hellersdorf on the edge of the Wuhletal and consists of the following three units:
These can be read as formally independent building volumes. The tourist information office forms the centre, functions as an entrance, foyer and forms an axis between the street and the park.
IDENTITY
Sustainability and innovation
Marzahn-Hellersdorf is best known as a large housing estate. In the 1980s, the largest new housing estate in Europe was built in the two districts. This construction phase was characterized in particular by industrially prefabricated prefabricated buildings. Conceptually, the building design is based on the architectural history of Marzahn. As a solid timber construction, the building continues the tradition of industrial construction, which was reflected in an extremely short construction time. The façade made of diagonally bent aluminium sheets quotes the concrete shaped stone walls developed by sculptor Karl-Heinz Adler in the 1970s, which are a defining design element in the district's urban space. This creates an intuitive relationship to the place and directly reflects the architectural heritage of the district.
CONSTRUCTION
Renewable, pre-elemented and flexible
Due to the prefabrication of the building elements, the solid timber construction could be completed in just four months. The material wood not only stores Co in the long term, but also has a positive effect on the indoor climate and atmosphere. The column-free supporting structure spans the exhibition and event area and thus allows maximum flexibility. The curtain wall façade allows the construction elements to be dismantled completely by type. The aluminium used is 100% recyclable and the renewable raw material wood can either be reused or thermally recycled.
ENERGY
The heat-energy concept is based on an air source heat pump and a surface heating system. Due to the component-activated floor slab in the exhibition area, it was possible to dispense with an additional floor structure. The lighting concept is LED-based. The energy concept is supported by an 8400 KWp PV system, which supplies electricity to two e-bike charging stations next to the building. In order to increase self-consumption and to be able to use self-generated electricity at evening events, the system is supplemented by a 13.5KW electricity storage system. In the future, the PV system can be expanded, making the building a plus-energy building.
