The existing building is part of a housing estate consisting of a few different types of houses. These were positioned more or less without regard to the cardinal direction, the surrounding terrain or the location of the neighboring houses. The building typology with its two windowless facades is more reminiscent of a terraced house than a detached single-family house. In addition, the floor plan arrangement currently does not allow for contemporary living:

Windows that are too small or no windows, a division of the main floor into small rooms, a problematic arrangement of the bathrooms. The internal parking garage is "from another time", as is the main access via the landing. The garden is located on the north side of the house, the mini balcony is hardly usable and is not connected to the living area.

The new program replaces the garage with a studio, and the existing access is changed in favor of a generous southern access. The construction of the roof allows for a new, free floor plan on the upper floor, as no load-bearing walls are necessary. The new living area now connects the extended balcony to the south and the garden view to the north.

The vertical appearance of the street façade with its balcony-flanking wall panels is taken up and reinforced by the vertically divided window elements. Inside, the vertical alignment is continued by floor-to-ceiling sliding doors.

Standard gratings serve as fall protection on the upper floor and as burglary protection on the ground floor. The balcony is also clad with gratings.
