The municipality of Seubersdorf in the Upper Palatinate wanted to give itself a new town centre in a central location. The existing ensemble of St. Gregor's Church, town hall and school was to be supplemented by a square and rounded off with two smaller public buildings.
Instead of a very large square, together with ver.de landscape architecture, we proposed a sequence of smaller squares that develop naturally over several heights. In combination with the new buildings, they form a permeable structural structure that offers pedestrian connections in the centre of the village and charming views.
As a 'rock in the surf', the community centre occupies the northern area of the area and limits the space to the busy main road. The second building is centrally placed. It houses the local library on the town hall square and rooms for family work on the school street. With their polygonal basic shape, the houses pick up on the conditions of the property, connect the different heights of the sloping terrain and avoid unsightly backs.
The monolithic and stone-like buildings live from the exciting contrast of their base zones made of in-situ concrete, plastered outer walls and precisely placed, large-scale glazing, which provide insights and views into the immediate village landscape. Inside, the houses are characterized by natural materials such as concrete, wood, natural stone and plaster.
