The 7-storey new building is located in Berlin Mitte and was inserted as a perimeter block development between the fire walls of the neighbouring houses. The residential building in Christinenstraße is a monolith made of concrete poured on site. The floor-by-storey structure of the building takes up elements of the surroundings and at the same time gives the house a special and self-confident expression. The irregular layout of the property has been used to develop exciting interiors and exterior design. Due to its discreet colouring, the new building fits naturally into the Wilhelminian buildings. At the same time, it is distinguished by its wide window openings and the visible solidity of the material. A modern lightweight concrete – Liapor – was used to design the façades, which has both a load-bearing and highly thermal insulation function – two properties that seem to contradict each other. The two façades are constructed as Liapor concrete solid walls, which eliminates the need for separate thermal insulation.
