The Atelier Kaiser Shen BDA in Stuttgart was founded in 2017 by Florian Kaiser and Guobin Shen and realizes projects in various scales.
Since June 2024, Atelier Kaiser Shen has been headed by Florian Kaiser, supported by associates Kilian Juraschitz, Johannes Schreiner and Matthias Stauch. Atelier Kaiser Shen is engaged in the development of projects ranging from urban planning ideas to built details. Her work has been honoured with several prizes, including first place in the "Houses of the Year 2023" award (Deutsches Architekturmuseum and Callwey-Verlag), an award at the AR House Award 2024 (Architectural Review, London) and the special prize at the Houses Award 2024 (Bundesstiftung Baukultur).
In 2020, they were appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA), and in 2022 their first solo exhibition entitled "Unfinished Houses" took place at the Architekturgalerie am Weißenhof.
In the same year, the founders of the Atelier Kaiser Shen, Florian Kaiser and Guobin Shen, published the book "Unfinished Houses. In the book, the studio explores the challenges architects face in creating timeless structures. It is discussed whether the claim to eternal architecture is realistic, since buildings can change after completion under the influence of external factors. Using references from architectural history, art and anthropology, the studio develops theses that are tested on the basis of its own projects. The central question is how these changes influence the permanence of architecture and the idea of space.
