A development plan has currently been drawn up for the approx. 8,200 sqm area of TUK in the Diemerstein Valley, opposite Villa Denis. This shows two building plots with a total area of approx. 3,700 sqm.

Innovative timber buildings are to be gradually built on the construction sites, applied timber construction research and experimental buildings with different uses. The projects will be developed with the participation of students and valley residents, under the direction of the research area t-lab.

The timber construction campus is intended to relocate activities of the TU Kaiserslautern to the Diemerstein Valley, revitalize the place and upgrade it piece by piece. Workshops and international summer schools are being planned.

t-lab workshop building

The new timber construction campus is to be kicked off by a workshop building, which will serve as a starting point for further projects. The approximately 400 square meter building offers a flexibly playable interior space that can be used for workshops, seminars and events or for the construction and assembly of mock-ups and demonstrators as part of ongoing research projects.

The new building is located longitudinally in the valley and thus does not stand in the way of the existing cold air flows. The entrance faces Villa Denis and the existing parking lot. With the trained canopy, it is intended to serve as a meeting point and weather protection for hikers starting here.

Wood will be used for the primary construction, the façade and the finishing. Planning and implementation are to be carried out with students of the TU Kaiserslautern as a so-called design-build project.

The design for the workshop building was developed with students. The requirement to realize parts of the building in self-construction played a role in the considerations regarding component dimensions and joining.
