The Upper West at Breitscheidplatz rises impressively into the air at 118 meters and is one of the four tallest buildings in the city. The design for the building was created by LANGHOF® Architekten, Berlin. With its slender shape and white robe, the new Upper West blends elegantly into the cityscape and makes a clear statement for modernity with its design. Invisible from the outside, technical sophistication is concealed behind graceful simplicity: Saint-Gobain Glass has not only supplied a large number of different types of glass for heat and sun protection in buildings, but also special glass with radar-damping properties.

In addition to the striking 34-storey tower, the Upper West building ensemble also includes a flat 8-storey timber-framed building. On a total area of 53,000 m2, the ensemble offers space for retail space, offices and a hotel of the Motel One Group. Around 580 hotel rooms are housed on the first 18 floors in the tower. Floors 19 to 32 are reserved for office space, where you can work in peace and quiet with a view of the city. On the top floor of the tower there is a sky bar with a fantastic view over the whole of Berlin. The flat timber-framed building is designed as a commercial building for retail and office space. The white, curved element façade of the Upper West is an elegant eye-catcher – it gives the building complex a special appearance. Around 25,000 m² of building façade made of 3,800 prefabricated aluminium elements were assembled and assembled on site. From the outside, a white, front-mounted aluminium cladding characterises the character of the high-rise building – the slightly offset arrangement of the individual elements creates a lively and at the same time homogeneous façade appearance. The timber-framed building has a different look: its façade is characterised by prefabricated concrete parts, brass-coloured frames give the windows a sense of depth.

As homogeneous as the building envelope of the Upper West appears from the outside, the approximately 3,800 façade elements are individual in their design. And this applies both in terms of format and equipment, as well as in terms of glazing – and in the Upper West, this meets not only the latest requirements for noise and climate protection but also the requirements of flight safety.
