The municipality of Bad Boll needed a new fire station and commissioned our office with the planning and implementation. This was preceded by a multi-stage selection process.
In order to be able to accommodate the vehicles in particular, the building had to have at least two long outer sides. The concept envisages obstructing the scenic lines of sight to the south as little as possible. To achieve this, the elongated building was placed at right angles to the main road (Badstraße). On the one hand, the emergency vehicles can easily enter the road directly. On the other hand, the visual relationships with the landscape are largely preserved.
In addition to changing rooms, recreation rooms and training rooms, the building includes a modern vehicle hall. The consistent execution in exposed concrete and glass emphasizes functionality. However, the design language gives the building a high aesthetic quality and individual appearance.
In 2021, the fire station received an award in the "Exemplary Building in the District of Göppingen 2014 - 2021". The building convinced the jury, which justified its decision as follows:
"Not the different roles as Fire brigade, control centre in the event of a disaster or meeting place of the municipal council characterize its appearance, but the deliberate positioning and two-sided accessibility with positive charisma in the context of today's village landscapes."
Sustainable energy supply, smooth processes and high spatial quality are characteristic of the building: it has a photovoltaic system, the roof has been greened and is heated by geothermal energy. The geothermal baskets are located under the parking lot. In addition, the building is designed for expansion.
