Integrative concept: The design of a cemetery is based on the faith and its burial rites, which in turn say a lot about the respective understanding of nature and social conditions. This circumstance should also be clearly demonstrated by the new cemetery project for Muslims in Vorarlberg. Regardless of the denominational orientation, the two forms of Christian and Muslim burial sites have in common that the cemetery was the first garden. As an actual primeval garden, it is characterized by the cultivation of its soil and by its clearly defined area. When creating a garden, a piece of land is delimited for the first time and clearly demarcated from the wilderness. The aim of the design is a very open and clearly designed overall concept. A delicate mesh of wall slices at different heights encloses the grave areas and the structural part. The 'finger-shaped' grave fields allow for a phased realisation and interlock the complex with the untouched floodplain-like landscape.
