The existing situation is characterised by the location of the property in the area of tension between the open lake landscape and the compact urban fabric. In front of the closed urban development is an island-like construction site occupied by solitary buildings with superior use. In between, there are beautiful lines of sight from the city to Lake Constance. The new concept of the Landesmuseum develops structurally from the local conditions and, as a new solitaire, forms the western end of the series of important point buildings. The concept is based on the principle of continuing to build. The listed building stock of the district administration will be almost completely preserved and integrated into the overall solution. The existing building will be vertically extended with two storeys, and a five-storey new building will be developed directly afterwards in the direction of Kornmarktplatz. Existing buildings, additions and new buildings form a new large-scale form with a clear and compact building figure. By keeping the existing pointed south corner of the Landesmuseum free and bending the south-west façade in the transition between old and new, a new urban planning situation is generated. The perimeter block development will be dissolved, the building will become independent and solitary. The different construction phases are made visible by differentiated façade structures and surface textures. A uniform colour scheme connects all parts of the building to form a large whole. The greater height and the new colour scheme give the new museum a strong presence both in the urban space and on the shores of Lake Constance.
