The starting point of this project was the conversion of an unused stable in the village centre of Soglio into a residential building. The question of continuity is not discussed in this project from a formal point of view, but on the basis of materials that are neither prefabricated nor industrially manufactured: tamped concrete, untreated solid oak wood and welded steel, all of which were used with great craftsmanship and extreme precision. Tamped concrete takes on the static role of the old, traditional masonry, an attempt to merge the old substance with the new, as if tamped concrete were the logical, contemporary continuation of the old stone walls. In this sense, the tamped concrete is not only intended to be an expressive, aesthetic building element, but also to demonstrate the importance of architecture in the urban context, in this case by means of the surrounding walls as a continuation of the interior walls of the house.
