The Dorf school complex is positioned along Tramstraße at an important location in Suhr. As a contrast to the heavily frequented traffic axis, a tranquil promenade with an avenue of trees is planned. The schoolhouse will be set back and free up a new green space as a continuation of the small park in front of the village museum.
Typologically, it is a self-referential, almost temple-like building that brings some peace to the heterogeneity of the surroundings. The basic structure is simple, consisting of two concentric rings with prefabricated concrete columns and an expressive, central staircase. The repetitive construction and prefabrication enable efficient and fast implementation, a not insignificant aspect in view of the limited space and the tight schedule for the realization of the construction project while the school is still in operation.
The multi-purpose room with the foyer on the ground floor is oriented towards the new parking space and establishes the connection between the school and the public. The voluminous staircase in the form of a double helix with a central atrium functions as a connecting element for all floors due to its vertical access and becomes a meeting zone for children and teachers. The school takes place on the three upper floors. With eight class units per floor, this results in manageable spatial and functional units. Thanks to great flexibility in the room layout, a wide range of uses, including large-scale uses, are possible, which can be adapted to different school concepts. With linoleum floors and suspended ceilings, built-ins in window niches and partition walls made of wood, the rooms convey a homely atmosphere.
