Conversion of a former barracks into a guest and meeting house of the Regensburg universities.

As part of the conversion of the former Nibelungen barracks in the south of Regensburg, the former guard and officers' building, built in the Heimatschutz style from 1939-1941 and today as a testimony to the time under monument protection, was to be converted into a guest and meeting house of the Regensburg universities. In the former anti-aircraft barracks of the German Air Force, the "international, cosmopolitan spirit of the University of Regensburg" desired by the client was a challenge in many respects.

After extensive pollutant remediation, the offices, the previously unused attic and the basement were converted into apartments for students and teachers. The former cell wing of the barracks now serves as emergency accommodation and offers short-term shelter to students. While most of the interventions are careful and hardly visible to the outside, the wide cantilevered roof forms the new address, visible from afar. The former flag roll call square became a spacious, terraced garden and the dark columned hall of the officers became a light-flooded meeting place for all guests.
