NEW CONSTRUCTION OF A LABORATORY AND WORKSHOP BUILDING
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin für Materialien und Energie operates two research infrastructures that are also used by around 3,000 trade fair guests from all over the world. One of them is the synchrotron radiation source BESSY II at the Berlin-Adlershof site.
To ensure reliable user operation of BESSY II in the future, the two construction phases of the testing hall with laboratories, offices and meeting rooms as well as workshops and halls were built. On the eastern side of the construction site, the 1st construction phase of the testing hall has been built with measuring stations and test benches for the institutes of Accelerator Physics, SRF Science and Technology HZB and Undulator Building. Special requirements require several special constructions, such as special radiation protection, fire protection and safety measures for building in sensitive environments [BESSY II]. Both construction phases are designed as a reinforced concrete structure with a rear-ventilated and thermally insulated metal façade.
In addition, the 2nd construction phase was equipped with a building-integrated photovoltaic system [BIPV] made of CIGS modules. For example, a "real-world laboratory" has been created for HZB, where research is carried out on topics such as long-term monitoring and yield analyses in real operation.
