Stephan Birk, Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Architekt BDA, born in Stuttgart in 1975, studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart and graduated there in 2003 with a diploma (distinction - diploma prize of the faculty). After graduating, he worked at Foster+Partners in London. Subsequently, Stephan Birk and Liza Heilmeyer founded their own office in Stuttgart in 2005. Her work has been awarded various prizes, including the Deubau Prize for Young Architects, the Advancement Prize of the Architekturgalerie am Weißenhof, the North Rhine-Westphalia Prize for Young Artists and the Europe 40 under 40 - Europe's emerging young architects and designers award.
In 2012, the office partnership with Martin Frenzel took place. Since 2007, Stephan Birk has been active in teaching parallel to his work in the office. Initially until 2011 as an academic assistant at the Institute for Building Construction and Design (Chair 1) at the University of Stuttgart. From 2012 to 2015, he held a substitute professorship at the Institute of Building Construction and Design (Chair 2). In 2015, he was appointed full professor at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Department of Building Construction I and Design.
Liza Heilmeyer, Dipl.-Ing. Architektin BDA, born in 1975 in Freiburg im Breisgau, completed a one-year course of study at the Freie Kunstschule Stuttgart and then studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart, where she graduated in 2003. After graduating, she worked at Foster+Partners in London.
Subsequently, Liza Heilmeyer and Stephan Birk founded their own office in Stuttgart in 2005. Martin Frenzel, Dipl.-Ing. Architekt BDA, born in Heidenheim in 1971, studied architecture at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, where he graduated in 2000. From 1997 to 2005 he worked as a freelancer for Mahler Günster Fuchs Architekten in Stuttgart. From 2001 to 2003, he was an academic assistant at the Institute of Urban Design at the University of Stuttgart. Since 2004, Martin Frenzel has been working as an independent architect, and since 2008 he has been cooperating with Stephan Birk and Liza Heilmeyer. Since 2012, he has been a partner in the office of Birk Heilmeyer and Frenzel Architekten.
