HeidelbergCement is one of the world's largest building materials companies. With the acquisition of the Italian cement company Italcementi, HeidelbergCement became the world's No. 1 in aggregates, No. 2 in cement and No. 3 in ready-mixed concrete. Both companies complement each other ideally on the one hand because of the great similarities in their product areas and organizational structures, and on the other hand because of their different geographical presence without major overlaps. In the significantly expanded HeidelbergCement Group, around 58,000 employees work in around 60 countries at over 3,000 locations on five continents.
HeidelbergCement's core activities include the production and distribution of cement and aggregates, the two main raw materials of concrete. Downstream activities mainly include the production of ready-mixed concrete, but also the production of asphalt and other construction products in some countries. With the acquisition of Italcementi, we have also significantly expanded our international maritime trade.
Cement production is raw material and energy-intensive. Sustainable management is therefore the basis for our long-term success. This includes securing our raw material reserves, efficient and innovative production processes, the development of new products and the use of alternative raw materials and fuels. We also promote biodiversity in our raw material extraction sites.
