Architecture firm Behles & Jochimsen: Relative autonomy in architecture
The architectural firm Behles & Jochimsen pursues an approach that understands architecture as a discipline that can be physically experienced and is culturally understandable. We believe that the building must be perceived as an independent entity in order to enable a subjective experience. The focus is not only on the architecture itself, but also on its relationship to the context – be it to the landscape, the city or existing buildings.
Our designs are based on a profound connection to cultural material that draws from both architectural history and other fields. Through this referentiality, we create approaches that are both rational and associative. In addition, we develop a logic inherent in the project that enables our works to exist independently of their conditions and thus to reconnect with culture.
One focus is on the planning of educational and research facilities as well as the renovation of listed old buildings and high-quality interior fittings. We also carry out urban planning studies and planning, often with research and moderation components. Our clients come from private and public sectors, with many projects going back to competitive successes.
Since our foundation in 1999, we have been working competently, on budget and on time. We are active as general planners and implement projects both at home and abroad. Our work has been widely published and exhibited, which underlines our commitment to innovative and sustainable architecture.
