Prof. Dirk Bayer and Prof. Andrea Uhrig have been running the office of bayer | uhrig architects. Her practice is closely linked to the teaching of architecture at the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau and at the Koblenz University of Applied Sciences. Thanks to the Europe-wide exchange and the intensive networking of the two, the Palatinate is marked on the architectural map. The office prefers to examine the impulses of international architecture in a regional context and in small and medium-sized projects, each of which is supervised personally and on an equal footing with the client and the trades.
Even the early works, mostly residential buildings, revolve around a programmatic core in their creation and realization, for which no thesis paper is needed, but a certain way of looking at it. Dirk Bayer and Andrea Uhrig start their work by asking questions. Their approach to architecture is based on a broad background of knowledge and respect for the existing building. An archive of references has been continuously formed, which is used as a fund for its own work. This fund is fed by an interest in everyday concrete life and experience and constantly leads to new considerations as to how reality could be improved with the help of architecture.
