Ansgar Schulz

born in 1966 in Witten/Ruhr, studied architecture at RWTH Aachen University and ETSA de Madrid from 1985 to 1992. He has been a member of Schalke 04 since 1990 and in 1992 he founded the office Schulz und Schulz with his brother Benedikt based in Leipzig.
He was appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA) in 2002 and to its AKJAA working group of young architects in 2004. From 2004 to 2009, he was a member of the state executive committee of the BDA Saxony. He headed the BDA regional group in Leipzig from 2005 to 2010 and was appointed to the Deutscher Werkbund Berlin DWB in 2015. He was appointed to the Convention of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture in 2010, 2016 and 2018.
From 2002 to 2004, Ansgar Schulz taught at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. From 2010 to 2018, he researched and taught as a professor at TU Dortmund University, where he headed the Chair of Building Construction at the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering together with his brother. Since 2018, he has been Professor of Design and Construction at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Dresden.
Benedikt Schulz

born in 1968 in Witten/Ruhr, studied architecture at RWTH Aachen University and UC de Asunción/Paraguay from 1988 to 1994. He has been a member of Schalke 04 since 1990 and in 1992 he founded the office Schulz und Schulz with his brother Ansgar, based in Leipzig.
He was appointed to the Association of German Architects (BDA) in 2002 and to its AKJAA working group of young architects in 2004. As spokesman, he headed the AKJAA from 2006 to 2009. In 2010 he was appointed to the Saxon Academy of the Arts, and in 2015 to the Deutscher Werkbund Berlin DWB.
From 1995 to 1996, Benedikt Schulz worked as a research assistant at RWTH Aachen University. From 2002 to 2004 he taught at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. From 2010 to 2018, he researched and taught as a professor at TU Dortmund University, where he headed the Chair of Building Construction at the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering together with his brother. Since 2018, he has been Professor of Design and Construction at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Dresden.
Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz
have received numerous awards for their work, including the European Balthasar Neumann Prize and the International Prize for Sacred Architecture. The Provost's Church of St. Trinitatis, which they designed, was named "Religious Building of the Year" at the World Architecture Festival WAF 2016. As an honorary prize for their architectural oeuvre and for their services to building culture, they received the Grand DAI Prize for Building Culture in 2018.
The brothers Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz are regular jury members in architectural competitions, planning reports and architecture prizes. They are often invited to guest reviews and guest lectures at colleges, universities and congresses. Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz were appointed to the design advisory board by various cities. There they advise the respective committees as experts on questions of urban design and the cityscape.
