Especially for the insulation of the top floor ceiling, waterproof glued wood chipboard of the quality V100/E1 is often installed as a load-distributing layer instead of conventional screeds. These can either be the substrate for a covering to be applied (e.g. tiles, parquet, carpet) or serve as a finished walking surface themselves if the design plays a subordinate role due to use, e.g. in storage rooms, in undeveloped attic spaces or as a temporary walking surface. The surface of the wood chipboard can still be varnished, glazed, waxed or oiled if necessary.
Prefabricated screeds made of wood chipboard are also available as composite elements with insulation laminated on the underside (usually made of EPS), which, depending on the design, takes on a thermal and/or impact sound insulation function.
