Structure of a carpet

Regardless of its material and the manufacturing process, the structure of a carpet differs first of all according to whether it is three-dimensional (with a pole) or two-dimensional (without a pole).

Carpet with pole:

  1. Wear layer (pile/pile, e.g. loops or velour)
  2. Carrier layer
  3. optional: Middle layer
  4. Backing layer
  5. optional: Adhesive layer
  6. Substrate

Carpet without pile:

  1. Wear and support layer (e.g. warp and weft)
  2. optional: Backing layer
  3. optional: Adhesive layer
  4. substrate
