Foam glass sheets (also known as glass foam sheets) are produced by foaming recycled glass with the addition of mineral aggregates. They are characterized by a closed cell structure and therefore do not absorb water. They are permanently dimensionally stable even under high pressure. In addition, foam glass sheets are non-flammable and absolutely vapour-proof.
Foam glass panels can practically always be used as perimeter insulation under floor panels, regardless of the water load and the soil conditions, provided that the building authority approval has been obtained. Products that are approved as perimeter insulation, but not for load transfer under foundation or floor slabs, must not be loaded by the foundation or floor slab, i.e. only be used, for example, between strip foundations.
