Wooden facades can be arranged vertically, horizontally or diagonally, although diagonal wooden facades are rarely executed. Basically, the vertical arrangement is the most durable, as rainwater can be drained off best. However, it must be noted that the ends of the end-grain can absorb a lot of water and therefore need special protection. In the case of horizontal and diagonal arrangements, special attention must be paid to structural wood protection, such as sufficiently large butt joints and rounded edges in surface treatments to compensate for the poorer water drainage.
