Bricks are the oldest prefabricated building elements. They are formed from clayey clay and fired in kilns. In the past, they were produced as solid bricks and used for thousands of years. Modern production techniques and increased requirements have led to precisely fired, highly thermally insulating bricks. To reduce weight, save material and improve the insulation value, bricks with hollow chambers and air voids were developed.
