Terrazzo has been produced since ancient times.
It is a seamless flooring, traditionally made of aggregates (marble, dolomite, limestone) and spread on the floor with water and binder. It is then compacted and sanded.
In the past, lime was mainly used as a binder, but today grey or white Portland cement is usually used.
For harder soils, harder materials are used, such as river gravel or granite chippings. When choosing the materials for the composition, care should be taken to ensure good sandability.
For the appearance, a selection of pigmentation is made by means of coloured grains and aggregates. The surface of terrazzo floors can also be processed. It can be sandblasted or bush-hammered, for example.
Terrazzo is produced on site and thus corresponds to a screed.
