In contrast to conventional suspended ceilings with metallic top layers, there are also systems that enable free organic ceiling design, without dividing the top layer components by means of a strict orthogonal grid and often also with a flowing height of the ceiling soffit. Integrable lighting solutions are also offered that are tailored to the organic appearance and do not disturb the harmonious, flowing character of the suspended ceiling, but rather reinforce it. Other technically necessary elements in the ceiling area, e.g. loudspeakers or sprinklers, can also be integrated in a sophisticated way in terms of design.
Other metal design ceilings rely on unusual surfaces, e.g. glued-on real wood veneers, printing and sanding techniques, perforation patterns or hammered stainless steel. Especially in larger construction projects, the planner can individually determine the shapes and surfaces of the suspended ceiling in cooperation with the manufacturer. This type of suspended ceiling is not regulated in DIN EN 13964.
