Door dampers are available in different designs, e.g. for living room and basement doors. They increase the ease of use and prevent undesirable effects that can occur when operating the doors, e.g. unintentional accidents, loud banging when closing, incomplete closing, damage to walls and furniture due to violent opening or pinching of the fingers during uncontrolled closing. Not all models are approved for use on fire or smoke protection doors, especially models with a (non-smoke detector-controlled) hold-open function. There are simple surface-mounted door dampers and models that are mounted largely invisibly in the door rebate.
