Cement screed consists of sand (sometimes also gravel), cement as a binder and water. It may also contain certain aggregates that accelerate drying or improve processability, for example. It is the most common type of screed, which is very insensitive to moisture and pressure-resistant in the finished (cured) state. Its strong shrinkage behaviour when drying out means that larger areas are divided into smaller sections of a maximum of 40 m², which are separated from each other by joints. At the same time, the shrinkage can lead to "bowling", i.e. bulging of the edge areas. Therefore, sufficient and correct ventilation is particularly important for cement coating, see instructions for execution. Cement screed is also suitable for outdoor applications, e.g. on balconies or parking decks.
