SMALL HOUSES

The outskirts of Thalmassing are characterised by an extensive landscape of fields, large-scale school and sports facilities and a fairground with a beer tent. We asked ourselves how a children's home should be designed so that it can assert itself appropriately here, at the entrance to the village, and at the same time create an inviting, child-friendly place with a high recreational value. We think it would be a nice solution to see the children's house as an interplay of individual houses. Each area - i.e. crèche, kindergarten, crèche, library - will thus have its own building. If these houses are now placed next to each other and moved against each other, an expansive group of houses is created on the available property, forming charming courtyards and interlocking with the outside space in a very natural way. The courtyards offer very protected, multi-use open spaces that convey from the extensive landscape to the house. The houses will be built in solid timber construction on concrete slabs and will have a highly thermally insulating wooden façade. While the gable walls are largely closed, the individual houses open up to the courtyards and the garden with generous openings. The south-facing orientation of the houses offers an optimal energy balance and external sun protection provides the necessary shade in summer. With the multitude of different roof pitches, the archetype of house is playfully taken up and becomes the memorable logo of the entire complex.
