GUTJAHR Systemtechnik: the company in profile

Safe drainage, ventilation and decoupling of coverings: Gutjahr Systemtechnik is a specialist in this – on balconies, terraces, outdoor stairs, on facades and indoors. Since its foundation in 1989, the company has been developing practical solutions that guarantee easy installation and permanently damage-free coverings, even for critical substrates. With around 300 products, Gutjahr has been growing continuously for years, in Germany as well as in many European countries.

The foundation for this success was laid by company founder Walter Gutjahr in the mid-1980s. As a master tiler and expert at the Cologne Chamber of Crafts, he knew exactly how quickly damage or visual impairment can occur on balconies and terraces – and in 1984 he applied for a patent for the first capillary-breaking surface drainage. In 2002, the system was included in the new leaflet for outdoor coverings of the Central Association of the German Construction Industry (ZDB).

In the meantime, Gutjahr has greatly expanded its product range. In addition to capillary-breaking drainage systems for terraces, balconies, outdoor stairs and drivable surfaces, the company offers other "problem solvers" in addition to drainage: for example, waterproofing systems. Drain grates for threshold-free transitions or edge profiles and balcony gutters made of value-retaining aluminium. Decoupling systems, shower channels and underfloor heating systems round off the range indoors. In addition, the company has already received several innovation awards and was named a Top 100 company in 2012. Gutjahr has been part of the Ardex Group since 2014.
