The fire brigade and police needed an optimal connection to the local transport network for operational purposes and accessibility – the joint accommodation of both facilities at one location has been consistently implemented here.

The construction project for the new building in the Göppingen district of Jebenhausen offers space for the local police station and the local volunteer fire brigade. On the one hand, the joint new building has clearly separated uses and separate entrances, but is designed as a joint cuboid building with a length of around 47 metres.

The fire station itself consists of an administrative area with an adjacent vehicle hall. The two-storey administration area in solid concrete construction has concrete ceilings above the ground floor and upper floor as well as in the stairwell. Operation-related rooms such as changing rooms and radio room are connected to the vehicle hall on the ground floor with direct access. Training rooms with kitchenette, youth room, instrument storage and administration area are located on the upper floor. These are connected to the hall via a gallery.

The single-storey vehicle hall with three parking spaces for fire engines and a separate garage for police vehicles is designed as a lightweight construction with reinforced concrete columns and a wooden structure above. The vehicle hall is completed by four sectional doors, a concrete floor slab, ceiling radiation for temperature control and a designated storage area.

The two-storey police station is designed in compact concrete solid construction with an open staircase. The space programme is based on functional and necessary police service procedures. On the ground floor there is the operations management with direct contact to the visitor gate, as well as the interrogation room with adjoining custody room and a warehouse that can be accessed directly via the police garage. Other rooms such as post management, administration area and changing facilities are located on the upper floor.

The flat roof consists of a two-percent inclined and insulated construction with extensive greenery. In addition, a photovoltaic system was installed on the roof. The roof area, including tops for the green roof, runs continuously over the administrative area, vehicle hall and police station. The building has a high-quality, striking characteristic thanks to its colour-coated, thermally insulated and curtain-walled metal façade with designed profiles.
