ZinCo Intensive Green Roof LAWN

ZinCo GmbH

Description

Lawn on roofs – a green carpet at lofty heights

In principle, lawn on the roof can be established by sowing or as a ready-made turf, as on the ground level. In the case of turf, quality grown on sandy soil must be used. Choosing the right type and structure of the lawn is also crucial. It must be clearly clarified what the lawn will be used for later. Once this has been determined, the right green roof structure and the suitable lawn type with adapted water and fertiliser management can be found. We recommend that you follow the standard seed mixtures of the FLL (Forschungsgesellschaft Landschaftsentwicklung Landschaftsbau) as well as the information provided by the ready-made turf and seed suppliers.

Compared to the grown soil, even more attention must be paid to irrigation and nutrient supply on the roof. It is important to have a continuous supply from the very beginning. A dug up garden soil releases nutrients and also receives a supply of moisture from below. This is not the case with the roof substrate. For environmental reasons, no fertilization of substrates is carried out. As a result, more fertilization must be applied and, if necessary, more frequent irrigation.

Watering and maintenance

In order to maintain a green lawn even in dry seasons, professional irrigation should  be installed on the green roof. This can be done in the form of pop-up sprinklers or a correspondingly tightly laid drip irrigation system.

The fertilisation specifications provided by fertiliser manufacturers are usually too low for roof substrates – especially in the initial phase. In any case, it is good to follow the above specification (usually for sandy soils) or even higher and to fertilize in good time.

Regular mowing reduces high evaporation losses and ensures a lasting good appearance.

More Over

A

green roof with lawn is basically possible in two variants: with the "roof garden" system structure or the "roof garden with Aquatec®" system structure. The basic structure is identical to the system structures there.

In the case of sports fields , DIN 18035 Part 4 must be observed depending on the requirements and appropriate turf base layers must be installed to deviate from the "lawn" system soil. We will be happy to help you.

Intensive green roofs – well-kept gardens on used flat roofs

Intensive green roofs can be compared to building a garden on a roof. These roofs are usually multifunctional and accessible. Intensive greening requires more weight and a higher system structure. Maintenance must be carried out regularly and depends on the design and the plants chosen. Depending on the thickness of the layer, almost all plants are possible, such as lawns, perennials, shrubs and trees, including other landscaping measures (e.g. ponds, pergolas and terraces).

These diverse forms of use can be implemented permanently and reliably with the ZinCo system structures. In addition, a large number of detailed solutions offer safety in the execution of connections and terminations, transitions and drainage points.

Features

  • Lawns, perennials, shrubs and trees
  • High maintenance Regular
  • watering
  • Structure thickness 15–200 cm
  • Weight 200–3,000 kg/m²

Intensive green roofs offer the entire spectrum of landscape architectural designs. Lawns, perennials, fruit and vegetables, woody plants and trees grow at layer heights of 15–100 cm, often combined with pavements, terraces, play areas or water features. Even driving surfaces, such as on underground car park ceilings, are possible with appropriate statics. Depending on the version, a weight of 150–1300 kg/m² must be taken into account and irrigation and maintenance requirements must be taken into account.
