In Neuötting, Köster is building what is probably Germany's largest logistics hall in timber construction for ju:niz Real Estate GmbH*.

Usually, the building envelope is already closed at a topping-out ceremony. At the topping-out ceremony for the new logistics hall in Neuötting on 27 July, however, the guests were able to look out over the green surrounding area. Or even better, on the wooden construction of the new logistics hall. Because it makes the more than 10,000 m² building so extraordinary that guests should definitely get an impression of it.

"The wooden construction was completed in just four weeks," says Köster project manager Michael Biederer, describing the rapid construction progress with wood. His team had only started work in March. In the coming weeks, the outer walls will be built and the hall expanded. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Timber construction as part of the overall concept

The use of wood as a building material in construction significantly reduces CO2 emissions compared to buildings made of steel and concrete during construction, the client emphasizes. He explained the coherent and sustainable overall concept of the "green" logistics hall. In addition to the wooden construction, this also includes efficient insulation, the photovoltaic system on the hall roof and a powerful heat pump. In this way, the hall can be operated in the future in terms of energy self-sufficiency. This pays off for the environment and the wallet. "After a term of 10 years, we will save half a million euros in heating costs alone," explains Alexander Schuster, Managing Director of ju:niz Real Estate. For him, this was a vision come true.

For the company, it is a forward-looking project – even if the topping-out ceremony was celebrated in the traditional way. For example, Dr. Frank Hauk, founder and owner of the ju:niz group of companies, together with carpenter Sven Braun, drove the aerial platform under the hall roof to hammer the last nail into the beam with powerful blows.

Impressive Speed

The numerous guests from politics and business were quite impressed by what is probably the largest logistics hall in timber construction that currently exists in Germany. Neuötting's mayor Peter Haugeneder, who took part in the topping-out ceremony like his colleague from Altötting, Stephan Antwerpen, also emphasised the speed with which the project is being implemented. Even though the preparation of the development plan was not easy, it came into force in a relatively sporty time. "And today we can already see the shell," said Peter Haugeneder happily.
