Description

Structural matrices with photo-engraving turn the concrete façade into a canvas!

More Over

On the computer, photos are converted into a file for the CNC milling machine. The positive model is created on the basis of the milling file. Depending on the resolution of the motif, the photogravure matrix creates a fine to coarse relief-like surface structure on the façade. This gives the impression that the picture has been milled into the concrete. Wandering sunlight creates varied effects: perpendicular incidence of light makes the image disappear. When the light falls on the side, the reliefs cast shadows on the exposed concrete, which make the photo appear clear in the concrete.

Technical Information

Manufacturing process:

  • 01: A photo or graphic serves as a template for the mother mold. They are converted into a file with 256 shades of gray on the computer. Each grayscale defines a groove width. The CNC milling machine transfers the digital model to a panel material.
  • 02: The milling model is sealed with a separating wax and provided with a peeling frame. A liquid elastomer is then poured onto the model to produce the structural die.
  • 03: After the plastic has hardened, the formwork frame can be removed. The high elasticity of the matrix allows for a detailed reproduction of the structure and makes it so robust that it can be used several times for façade panels (up to 100 times).
  • 04: The concrete formliner is glued to the formwork and waxed with release agent before the formwork can be poured with concrete.
  • 05: The formwork formliner can be poured with concrete in the precast plant or on site.
  • 06: After the concrete has hardened, the façade panel can be easily stripped. The die is ready for use again, up to 100 times, depending on the type.
