Cross-laminated timber

Cross-laminated timber (CLT or X-Lam) is a flat, solid wood product for load-bearing applications. It consists of at least three board layers of softwood sawn timber glued at right angles to each other. In addition to the manufacturer-neutral German product designation cross-laminated timber (CLP) and the English designation Cross Laminated Timber (CLT or X-Lam), manufacturer designations such as thickwood or cross-laminated timber are common.

Cross-laminated timber constructions are among the solid timber construction methods. Cross-laminated timber can be produced in very large dimensions and is therefore suitable for the production of load-bearing and at the same time space-forming components such as wall, roof and ceiling panels.

After inserting

the board lamellae layer by layer into a press bed, adhesive is applied. Adjacent layers are usually arranged 90° to each other.

The pressing pressure required for bonding is generated hydraulically or in a vacuum process.

The components are usually dismantled in the manufacturing plant.
