A timber strip façade is when the wooden boards or strips are installed as open façade formwork. As with the wooden plank façade, the parallel-edged, usually rather narrow strips are mounted on a wooden batten, whereby the distance should be at least 8 mm and can be up to a few centimetres in size. Since the wooden façade does not provide sufficient weather protection, a UV-resistant and waterproof façade membrane must also be installed under the formwork.
The strips can be supplied with a rough-sawn, planed, brushed or coated surface and in different thicknesses, widths and lengths, whereby the length is limited depending on the type of wood and the risk of the wood warping increases from a certain width of the strip. On the other hand, particularly narrow strips tend to twist or tear and make installation more difficult because there is too little surface area for fastening. As a rule, façade strips up to a length of 5 m are offered. In addition, special dimensions are possible. Due to the small individual elements, this wooden façade offers great design freedom, and the façade membrane underneath is also available in different colours. Maintenance and repair of wooden board facades is very simple, as individual elements can be easily replaced.
