Quartzite

Quartzite is a metamorphic rock (metamorphic rock) that was formed from sandstone, chert or siliceous schist and consists mainly of quartz (> 80%). High pressure and high temperatures caused a melting of the original rock and quartzite was formed by re-crystallization.

Appearance: White to grey, pink, reddish to brownish, but also greenish and bluish tints. The rock appears fine-grained, massive and is almost pore-free. often naturally split surface

Properties: Low pore and firm, frost-resistant and de-icing salt-resistant. The properties vary depending on the degree of metamorphosis, which is why advice from the manufacturer is important.

Use in construction: indoor and outdoor floor coverings and wall coverings, crushed stone material, raw material for glass production.

Examples of quartzite varieties: Alta Quarzit (Norway), Azul Imperial (Brazil).
