PE film

Polyethylene film, or PE film for short, is used in building construction as a vapour barrier or separating layer for roofs, ceilings and exterior walls.

More about PE film

PE film can be clamped, nailed and glued as a vapour barrier. It is resistant to acids and alkalis, but not weatherproof. PE film cannot be used as a seal, as it allows moisture to pass through. In the case of unheated screeds, PE film can be used to cover the insulation layer. Polyethylene is based on carbon and hydrogen.

When

covering the insulation layer of screeds with PE film, the following applies:

  • unheated screed: Thickness d of the PE film: at least 0.1mm
  • Heated screeds: Thickness d PE film: at least 0.15mm, better 0.2mm

The joint coverage of the membranes must be at least 8cm.

PE film is laid in a tub-like manner. It should be pulled up about two cm on the walls.
