Open, semi-open and closed systems in drywall construction

In drywall construction, system constructions, e.g. for partition walls, room systems or suspended ceilings, are differentiated into open, semi-open and closed systems. Open systems correspond to standardised constructions for the respective application in accordance with DIN or EN, so products from different manufacturers (e.g. stud profiles, plasterboard) can also be combined with each other to form an open system (e.g. partition wall), provided that all individual products meet the respective standard requirements. In the case of closed systems, on the other hand, all individual system components are specified in a product- and manufacturer-specific manner by means of system approval via a general building inspection test certificate (abP) or a general building authority approval (abZ).

Semi-open systems are a middle way to achieve this, in which individual predefined manufacturer-specific components can be combined with standard-compliant components. Semi-open and closed systems are usually used when the entire system or individual components meet properties above normative requirements.
