Solid wood parquet made of modular blocks consists of horizontally lying blocks made of raw solid wood. For transport and installation, the modular blocks are held together in prefabricated laying units on their top and/or bottom by suitable material, e.g. adhesive strips. The laying units made of modular blocks result in patterns, e.g. cubes, in a laying unit only module blocks of the same width may be contained. One advantage of the modular blocks is the large wear layer thickness, which accounts for almost the entire block thickness due to the ungrooved wood.
Differences between the individual blocks and laying units in the shape and circumference of the growth rings and the pith rays are permitted without restriction. Insect predation is permitted as long as the upper side is not affected. Further specifications regarding the permissibility of sapwood, knots, shallow cracks, bark ingrowth, lightning cracks, fibre tendencies, biodegradation, colour differences and heartwood, in each case depending on the type of wood and the respective classification, are contained in Tables 1 and 2 of DIN EN 14761.
