Reinforced concrete ribbed ceiling

Reinforced concrete ribbed ceilings consist of a reinforced concrete slab under which vertical reinforced concrete beams, the so-called "ribs", are located at certain intervals.

More about reinforced concrete ribbed slabs

Non-load-bearing fillings such as insulation or building services can be inserted between these ribs. The load-bearing principle is the same as the principle of slab beam ceilings.

Notes on planning

The ribs must have a clear distance of no more than 70 cm, the rib width must be at least 5 cm. The thickness of the reinforced concrete slab must be at least 1/10 of the clear rib spacing, but at least 5cm.

Reinforced concrete ribbed ceilings can be tensioned on one or two axes. With a rib height of 16 to 40 cm, slabs with spans of 5 to 10 m are economically feasible.
