The fastening depends on the selected plastic/elastomer membrane and the specific application and must be determined taking into account the applicable DIN standards/flat roof guideline and in consultation with the manufacturer or the executing company:
- Bonding: full-surface bonding over a self-adhesive layer or product-related system adhesives, e.g. with polyurethane but also with hot bitumen for bitumen-compatible membranes.
- Mechanical fastening: loosely laid strips, in some places connected to the substrate by mechanical fasteners, e.g. linearly via flat strips or selectively via retaining plates, each made of metal, plastic-coated metal or plastic. In the case of a flat roof waterproofing, the fastening must be statically dimensioned with regard to its resistance to wind suction.
- Securing by means of an additional load (only for flat roof waterproofing): loosely laid membranes, secured against wind suction by means of a surface load, e.g. by a rock fill of grain size 16/32 with a minimum thickness of 50 mm, or with concrete slabs, concrete composite paving, or vegetation layers. The required additional load must be statically dimensioned with regard to its protective effect against wind suction.
