Full formwork or roof formwork is a full-surface cladding of wall or roof surfaces with wooden boards or other materials, e.g. wood-based panels with tongue and groove.
Full formwork is located either below or above the insulation. If they lie on the insulation layer, they must also be equipped with a (diffusion-open) pre-covering made of plastic or bitumen membranes to protect against dust, drifting snow, etc. In most cases, the formwork is no longer visible after the covering has been completed. However, if it is below the insulation, the flat cladding can also remain visible.
A roof formwork is necessary if the roof covering is not self-supporting or small-scale (e.g. wooden shingles, slate, tin roofs, roofing felt and bitumen)For
residential buildings, a roof formwork with a thickness of at least 24 mm is usually used. This ensures sure-footedness on the roof.
