Lifts, load capacity

Passenger elevators are classified in the elevator standard series according to their load-bearing capacity. The load capacity levels are: 320 kg, 450 kg, 630 kg, 1,000 kg, 1,275 kg, 1,600 kg, 1,800 kg, 2,000 kg and 2,500 kg. DIN EN 81-20 assumes an average weight of 75 kg/person for the safety rules for the construction and installation of passenger lifts.

For lifts in residential buildings, the following also applies: From a load capacity of 320 kg, the lift is suitable for transporting people, from 630 kg for prams and wheelchairs and from 1,000 kg for transporting stretchers and furniture. From a load capacity of 630 kg, a barrier-free version or a version as a fire brigade lift is also possible. Bed lifts have a load capacity of at least 1,275 kg. In the case of firefighter elevators, a load capacity of 1,000 kg is sufficient for rescuing people on beds or stretchers.
