DIN EN 1522 (Windows, doors, closures - bullet resistance, requirements and classification) distinguishes between the classification and requirements for testing with handguns and rifles into the seven resistance classes FB 1 (lowest bullet resistance) to FB 7 (highest bullet resistance). FB 1 already offers protection against a rifle of caliber 22 LR with lead round-head bullet, FB 4 against a handgun of caliber 357 Magnum with a conical pointed bullet. The resistance class FB 7 offers protection against a rifle of 7.62 x 51 caliber with a pointed projectile. In addition, there is the distinction between S (splintering, i.e. splintering occurs), or NS (non-splintering).
Examples: FB3 (S), FB4 (NS)
A tested bullet resistance for shotguns (with solid lead bullets) is not assigned to the classes FB1 - FB7, but is indicated with its own class "FSG".
With drywall, classifications up to resistance class FB 4 (NS) are possible. For this purpose, bullet-resistant special panels are installed in the cavity of the wall, as part of a partition wall system classified and approved as bullet-resistant according to DIN EN 1522.
With regard to rifles and handguns, bullet-resistant glazing is tested in accordance with DIN EN 1063 and assigned to the seven classes BR 1 - BR 7 (also differentiated into S/NS), and for shotguns to classes SG 1 and SG 2.
