Surface protection according to DIN 18531

Surface protection serves to protect the waterproofing of unused roofs against mechanical, thermal or weather-related (hail) damage from above.

In addition to light surface protection, e.g. by sprinkling slate/granules on the top of the sheet of polymer bitumen sheets or by applying an approved coating, there are the following options for carrying out heavy surface protection:

  • Rock fill, grain size 16/32, largely unbroken
  • Frost-resistant slab covering, e.g. made of concrete, ceramic or natural stone slabs, on an average 30 mm thick gravel/chippings bed or on building protection mats/slabs
  • Extensive green roofs Precise

specifications for this are contained in DIN 18531 Part 2.
